From France, Lepape (1887 – 1971) was a brilliant fashion illustrator who imparted motion and storyline to his work for the renowned “Gazette du Bon Ton,” by showing models turning their backs on viewers, or leaving the frame. He worked for many houses, illustrating British “Vogue’s” first cover, as well as covers for “Harper’s Bazaar,” and a surprising eight “Vogue” covers in one year.
